Ministry Activities All we do centers around and flows out of the pulpit ministry – preaching, teaching, and applying God’s word in its various dimensions. Sunday School: Classes are taught for kindergarten through adult. Catechism Classes: The pastor, in conjunction with the parents, instructs the youth weekly in Biblical doctrine and our Confessional Standards, as well as in church history. Family Prayer and Bible Study: As a time of informal group prayer and Bible study, we get together on Wednesday evenings for such fellowship. Men’s Reading Study: At certain times of the year, the men have gathered weekly to read together, the past few years focusing on John Calvin’s Institutes of the Christian Religion. Women’s Fellowship: The women meet every other month for a time of prayer and devotion, as well as planning and coordinating various service activities. Fellowship Meals: In conjunction with the observance of the Lord’s Supper, and following the Sunday worship service, every three months we enjoy a fellowship meal together with seasonal themes, We also have an annual Easter morning breakfast at the church, as well as a chili feed following our annual Christmas caroling. Family Visits: The pastor, elders and deacons engage annually in family visits, informally meeting in the homes of each family in the congregation, focusing on a particular passage of Scripture, and seeking to edify God’ people through reading, prayer, counsel, encouragement, and admonition. Covenant Youth Fellowship: The youth meet every month for a time of teaching, snacks, games, as well as doing service activities. Also, the annual RCUS Heidelberg Youth Camp is held in July in the Black Hills of South Dakota. College / Career Life in Christ: Periodically, the many college students in our midst, and younger adults in careers, gather in homes for pizza, conversation, various games and activities, as well as engaging in a discussion of current issues. Other activities include things like our annual Reformation Evening each October 31st, celebrating the Protestant Reformation, and December Christmas caroling in homes and care facilities. |
